RIDE UPDATES! Take Notice!
Glastonbury Dirt Road Adventure: New Start Location
Directions: Rt 2 to exit 10 (rte 83). (If going east on 2, right off exit,
if west, left). If you went the right way off the exit, you will come to a
T and stop sign in less than 1/4 mile. Take a left on New London Trpk.
First stop, right on Country Club Rd. First right (at crest of uphill) on
Coldbrook Rd. I am #572 on left, number on mailbox, only gravel drive on
the street. If yard is full, go to next house (#558, shared driveway, left
most option at top) which is the other ride leader, my father.
Potluck: By all means! I'll assume good weather for riding, means good
weather for eating outside. There is a pond a short walk out back; bring a
blanket and towel if you'd like.
Cheers
Greenfield, MA Vintage Ride:
The second update if for the Vintage Ride on Sunday, 4/18 in Greenfied MA. If one
has the choice to ride an older lugged steel bicycle on this ride, that would be
the way to go and the poit of the ride being "Vintage." Keeper of th Flame
bikes acceptable, i.e. one made later than '82. Otherwise, ride what you got.
The ride is on mostly smooth dirt roads along the Green River and is appropriate
for a road bike with larger tires. I[Bruce] do it it every year loaded for camp
touring on 1.4 tires. I am including the message as I received it from Norm Lafleur.
Hi All,
Our first New England vintage ride of the year will be on Sunday May 18th from Greenfield,
Ma. We will meet at the visitors center ( Ma. tourist info ) just off I 91 exit
26 at 11:00 AM. From exit 26 head towards Greenfield center, the left just past
Applebee's will take you to the visitor's center. As mentioned before the
route will follow the Green River into Vt. This is a scenic riverside route, just
over 30 miles long with about 2/3's of it on dirt. If you live out here riding
on dirt becomes routine, don't let it keep you away. The folks who requested
this route also recommend the local brew pub so you should consider hanging around
for a couple after the ride.
Hope to see you there. Please let me know if you plan to come.
Norm
Hope to see many of you on the rides. Bruce Miller
